Kangaroos live in different habitats from forests and woodland areas to grassy planes and savannas.

Tree kangaroos live above the ground in trees.

Larger types of kangaroo tend to shelter under trees or in caves or rock clefts.

Kangaroos are hunted for meat and the skin. Kangaroo meat is high in protein, zinc and iron. Australia exports kangaroo meat to more than 55 countries and it is considered as one of the finest game meat.

Some Kangaroo skins are transacted as furs while some are sold for the leather.

Diverse species of kangaroos have different diets.

Kangaroos have a very few natural predators. One major predator of the kangaroo which was the thylacine is now extinct. The other predators of the kangaroo which are now extinct are the marsupial lion, megalania and the wonambi. Kangaroos are adept swimmers. The kangaroo frequently flee into waterways if possible and is pursued into the water; large kangaroos use its forepaws to hold the predator immersed as if to drown it.

New born marsupials are called joeys. The joeys crawl through the mother’s fur and climbs into the bag.
